Consuming in Las Vegas: what is actually allowed

Possession

2.5 oz (70 g) of usable cannabis OR 1/4 oz (7 g) of concentrated cannabis, per NRS 678D.200. Limits were raised from 1 oz / 1/8 oz by SB 277 (2023), effective Jan 1, 2024. Edibles and other products count against the limit via the CCB's THC-equivalency exchange chart rather than having a separate sublimit. Possession over the limit is a misdemeanor (up to $600 fine).

In public

Consuming cannabis in any public place, in a retail cannabis store (outside a licensed lounge), or in a moving or parked vehicle is prohibited under NRS 678D.310. Penalty is a misdemeanor with a maximum $600 fine. This explicitly covers the Las Vegas Strip, Fremont Street, sidewalks, parks, casino floors, casino hotel rooms and rideshares. Casinos hold federal-facing gaming licenses and prohibit cannabis on property, including in guest rooms, so hotel-room consumption can also mean eviction and being trespassed.

On-site consumption

Yes — explicitly legal and operating, but the rollout is small. AB 341 (2021) legalized cannabis consumption lounges; the Cannabis Compliance Board adopted lounge regulations in 2022 (codified at NRS 678D.465–678D.470) and awarded the first prospective licenses via lottery in Nov 2022, with the first conditional licenses (Planet 13, Thrive, Sol Cannabis) in June 2023. Two license types exist: retail-attached (~$100k application fee) and independent (~$10k; at least 10 of the first 20 reserved for social equity applicants). As of mid-2026 only a handful of state-licensed lounges are actually open — Planet 13's Dazed! (west of the Strip, opened 2024) and Society Lounge / Society Elevated at The Grove on Paradise Road near UNLV (opened 2026). Thrive's Smoke and Mirrors, Nevada's first lounge (opened April 2024), closed in 2025 after under a year. Sol Cannabis' 'The Venue' in Washoe County (Reno) was approved but has remained in conditional status. About 23 additional locations hold conditional approval awaiting final inspection. Separately, the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe operates the Sky High Lounge at NuWu Cannabis Marketplace near downtown Las Vegas on tribal land, outside CCB jurisdiction. State law also requires cannabis establishments to sit at least 1,500 feet from a gaming facility, which effectively bars lounges from the Strip itself.
